Jim Rutkowski’s father passed away Saturday. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim and his family.
Walter D. Rutkowski, 87, of Toledo, passed away February 16, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. He was born on March 5, 1920, to Stanley and Mary (Zientek) Rutkowski in Toledo. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign receiving the WWII Victory Medal and 4 Bronze Stars. Walter worked and retired after 42 years for Toledo Pressed Steel. He was a member of St. Hyacinth Parish where he was also an usher, a member of their Holy Name Society, and past Boy Scout Leader for many years. Walter was also a member of American Legion Przybylski Post 642. He enjoyed gardening, fishing on Lake Erie, mushrooming, woodworking and golfing. Walter was preceded in death by the love of his life, Lillian (Zaracki), spending 43 wonderful years together; his parents and by 12 siblings. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Pat (Bob) Raczkowski; sons, Ronald (Debbie), Jim (Barbara), and Allan Rutkowski; grandchildren, David, Alison (Mike), Shawn, Scott, Sarah and Grace; great- grandchildren, Katie, Molly, Anna and Mary and sister, Rose (Stanley) Kapp. Family and friends may visit at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Monday from 5-8 p.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 6 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. with A.L. Przybylski Post Services at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Hyacinth Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors by the Lucas County Veterans Burial Corp. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Notre Dame Academy or St. Francis de Sales High School. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Windhaven Elderly Care for all of their compassionate care and support.
