Roger Barnes (Jan 7, 1932 - Aug 10, 2011)


Roger G. Barnes, age 79, a lifelong resident of Sylvania, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Ebeid Hospice Residence, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born January 7th, 1932 in Sylvania to the late Elta and Beulah (Grise) Barnes, Roger was the eldest of four sons. He was a 1950 graduate of Burnham High School. In 1957, Roger married Patricia Ann Schultz with whom he recently celebrated their 54th anniversary. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. A longtime member of Highland Meadows Golf Club, Roger was also an avid golfer. Operating The Roger G. Barnes Company for 32 years, he distributed custom engineered building products to schools, churches, and other industries. Roger's memberships were many and included: serving as Past President of the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce in 1981, Director of the Memorial Lutheran Chancel Choir for 34 years, directing the Seaway City Sweet Adeline Chorus to two successive regional championships and an 8th place finish in their first international competition in 1974, directing the Toledo Barbershop Chorus and later was a founder and the first Director of the Maumee Valley Chapter Chorus of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., member of the Toledo P.A.C. concert band, a member of the Zenobia Shrine Sylvania Pyramid Lodge and the Shrine Brass Band, a member of Olivet Lutheran Church- actively involved
in the music ministry and a member of their choir, directing the Toledo Civic Chorus, as well as the Toledo Hospital nurses choir. Roger's memory will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife: Pat; his sons: David (Karen), Brian (Susan), and Jeffrey (Annette); step-mother: Christine Barnes; grandchildren: Sarah, Annie, Nicole, Alex, Hannah, Jake, and Joseph; and brother: Dean Barnes. Visitation will be at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 2:00 PM until 7:00 P.M. The funeral service will be at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St., on Monday at 11:00 A.M, where friends are welcome to gather after 10:00 A.M.
